[by TELEGRAPH—PER PREBB ASSOCIATION 1 BETTING RAID. CHRISTCHURH, March 16. Detectives raided premises in Cathedral Square, alleged to he used as a common, gaming house, this afternoon. Armed with a search warrant, Detec-tive-Sergeant Young and Detective Mayne went to Room Eleven, in the Royal Exchange Buildings, Cathedral Square, occupied by John Henry Bott, aged 54 years. They seized a largo quantity of materials, which, the detectives allege, were used for bookmaking. Two men who were in the room at the time of the raid were taken into custody. The room presented the appearance of a printing office, there being two addressograpli machines, typewriters, a tape machine, cheque hooks, ledgers, and office appliances of all kinds. While the Detectives were in the room, several telephone calls were received, which were answered by the police.

The prints of the names on the addressogrnph machines number many hundreds.

As the result of the raid, John Henry Bott and William Henrv Cousins (aged 27) appeared before Mr S. Hurxt-Seager, .T.P., being charged with occupying a common gaming house; and Cousins with assisting him. Both men were remanded to appear at the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow. Bail was fixed ip self £IOO and one surety of £IOO each.

X.Z. TROTTING ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, March 16. The Board of the New Zealand Trotthing Association met yesterday. The Reefton Jockey Club stated that it had decided to take no further actum in connection with the case of H. Frost, who had lioen fined £lO bv tho Reefton Jockey Club for careless driving. and who had lodged notice of appeal. The ease was referred hack to the Club for the reason that no charge had l>een made agaginst Frost. The Stewards who sat on the enquiry had also acted in the capacity of witnesses,
