BOXING.
[by TELEGRAPH PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION’. 1 AUCKLAND. March 14. In their ten-round bout to-night at the Town Hall for a purse of £2OO, Billy Grime (Australian champion) 9.1 defeated Beg. Trowern (Auckland) 9.11. Tho referee stopped the fight in the ninth round, so as to save Trowern from heavy punishment. Grime gave a brilliant, but one-sided display. In the eighth round it was only the gong that saved Trowern from a knock-out. Trowern showed great pluck, but lie was no match for the Australian, who was reluctant to punish his opponent. In the ninth round Grime was cheered for his sportsmanship. Grime leaves for America to-morrow. The attendance was a record,,over 4000 people being present, while many others were unable to gain admittance. AUCKLAND, March 14. It was announced to-night in the Town Hall that Charlie Purdy, the Auckland boxer, would leave for England shortly to engage in further contests.
