Heaton Rhodes: ‘-Regret to inform you Her Koval Highness is indisposed and will be unable to accompany His Koval Highness to Hokitika on Friday.” Mr Berry replied :--“People execedinglv sorry and disappointed that Her Kiival Highness unable to visit us and trust Her Royal Highness may have a speedy recovery, and perhaps be enabled at the last moment to come on to Hokitika to meet, the children.” Mr Seddiui. M.P.. while in Wellington arranged for the Royal Party to stop at Otira and inspect the children ; al-.it while on the Coast for the Duke to inspect a sawmill in operation.

She will be unable for the next lew days to fulfil any public engagements. The Duke of York will continue to carry out alone the programme that lias been unhinged. TRIBUTE TO DUCHESS. IPALMEKSTON N., March 9. That the Duchess of York is even more beautiful and charming than newspaper reporters and photographers have represented her to be is the opinion expressed by lady residents of Palmerston Nortl/li. “She is more bdiutiful than 1 imagined,” says one lady. “No pen has adequately described her; nb camera has done her justice. All that the papers say does not convey any idea of the magic ot her personality. I hafird one old gentleman in the crowd remark: ‘I think she is very beautiful.’ Then two ladies with him said something ] could not catch, and lie replied: ‘Yes. but there is such a beautiful softness about her.’ And it is true. T think the Duke is a lucky man to have her for his wife. By the \w.iy he looks at her now and then ho just adores her.’’ The lady quoted admits that before she saw the Duchess, she thought the enthusiasm of the newspaper was rathc-r overdone.
AT NELSON. NELSON, Afarch 9. 'l’he Duke and Duchess of York have (arrived here. On the way to Nelson to-day, a small gill threw a little home-made posy into the Duke’s car. It had attached a card, on which was inscribed: “God bless the Duchess’s dei.ir little baby!” Her Royal Highness, who at once took possession of the offering, seemed very pleased.
The Duke of York who had taken to making little impromptu speeches, briefly addressed the Nelson children to-day, after their hearty greeting. He said he had heard that some of them had come long distances, even as Par as eighteen miles, and he and the Duchess thanked them very .much for this.
To-night the Nelson streets are brightly with coloured lights, and the streets were thronged. For nearly two hours there was a dense crowd in front of the hotel at which tlie Duke is staying. At nine o’clock the Duke appeared on the balcony and wjas greeted with a great burst of cheering, which was renewed after he made a brief speech of thanks. At dinner on the Renown last night. DUCHESS OF YORK NOT COAIING TO COAST. DUCHESS PROCEEDS ON RENOWN BLENHEIM, Alareh 10. II.Af.S. Renown at Pieton received a wireless message at 1.30 this morning stating that the Duchess of A’ork was taken ill at Nelson. The vessel was ordered to proceed immediately to Nelson and pick up the Duchess. The crow were got together bad the vessel is leaving at nine this morning. It is understood that the Duchess is suffering from tonsilitis. The Renown is expected to proceed from Nelson t" Lvttetlon where the Duke will rejoin her. RENOWN'S AIOVE.MENTS. NELSON, Alareh 10. The Renown is reniiining at Pieton until definitely called to Nelson to convey the Duchess to Lyttelton. DUCHESS’ CONDITION SATISFACTORY. NELSON. Afarch 10.
The Duchess of A'ork passed a fairly good night and her condition is satisfactory. She will remain at Nelson quietly to-day. It is understood Her Royal Highness will travel on the Renown from Nelson t<> Lyttelton as soon Vs she is able to do so. The Renown is coming from Pieton to Nelson to bring her.
