THE ROYAL TOUR

r»Y TULF.GR.U'II —PKIt PItESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLING TO -VS AY ELCO AIE. WELLINGTON, March 7. The official welcome to t-lie Duke was a brilliant success, niniked by wonderful enthusiasm on all hands from great holiday crowds in the streets as the Ducal car proceeded I rnm Government Mouse to tlie Town Trail. The Mayor read an address ot welcome from the citizens and Maurice Cohen nlie from the Harbour Baird, whereof lie is Chairman.

The Duke., in tlie course of his reply frequently applauded, thanked the people of Wellington for the wonderful welcome, which was the culmination of the Norf.ll Island tour. Now Unit portion of the journey had vanished he wished to sav how much he and the Duchess appreciated all that had been done for t'nciii. The Empire was the great common heritage of all its inhabitants, embodying truth freedom and justice those ideals for which many New Zealand men and women had laid down their lives in the Great War. There was no more glorious page in the history of New Zealand than the story of the heroism of its forces in that war. Now that peace prevails once more let us see to it that the lessons taught us in those dark days are learnt by our children. So long as Anzac Day with all it stands for is kept alive in their hearts so long as they follow the high example- of the brave pioneers of old the Dominion cannot fail to hold Hie high place she had won for herself in the front rank of nations of the world.
