WELLINGTON, .February 22. The detailed results of the Hymn Contest were as follows:

Greymouth Municipal, 2!)pts ... I St. Kilda, 2Spts equal 2 Kaikorai, 2Spts equal 2 Queen Alexandra’s Own Wanganui, 27pls. I

Sixteen other hands competed. The Judge said the leading hands played better than he expected. When lie indicated the winner, No. L 7 (Groymoutli Municipal) a hearty round of applause showed the audience was quite prepared lor a W<’St Coast win. Woolstoii tipped to win the test selection) played first, giving “Sun of My Soul,” for which they got 2(1 marks. The Wanganui Band, (,)uccn Alexandra’s Own, with "Lead Kindly Light.” came lourtli. St .Hilda Hand played just before Oreynioulh, giving "Nearer My God to Thee ” in brilliant fashion, gaining 28 murks and second place. Greymouth then gave “Nearer My God to Thee” also. The interpretation was splendid, the, .fudge remarking: ” I have heard some splendid playing better than I had anticipated. I admired the beautiful tonal qualities of the leading hands, and the hand that wins this hymn contest is the one that lias satisfied me with its nlaving and has given the best interpretation. The music of this hand fitted and suited the words.”

This reflects special credit on Conductor McMaster. Kaikorai followed with another fine effort, cuual to St. Hilda Band’s. The interpretation had .something to do with the Greymouth win. Damiovirke Band, which won the P> Grade first test, had a capital ensemble with nice harmony and colouring and brilliant cornettists. Invercargill Civic which came fourth is the old Invercargill Hibernian reconstituted and contains several members of the well known Wills family. Their cornet solo work was most noticeable.

Taken all through. much ol the playing was surprisingly good. Judge Holliwcl! said that Dannevirke had gained its position by good all round work.
