MAGISTRATE’S COURT
THURSDAY, FEB. 17th. (Before AV. Meldrum Esq., 5..A1.) DEPOSIT OF SAWDUST. Police v. Hokitika-Kanieri Sawmill Coy., a charge of allowing sawdust to enter Hokitika river. Air Murdoch for defendant Company, after an inspection bad been made, pleaded guilty to one charge, a second one being withdrawn. His A\ orsliip said there was no j doubt it- was a difficult matter for sawmills, but the Fisheries Regulations forbid the sawdust being allowed to flow into livers. The Companyhad done all that was reasonably possible to iirevent the flow, but an offence had been committed. A conviction would be recorded and a fine of £2 with costs 10s inflicted. DISPUTED DEBT. Lawrence Sullivan (Mr Murdoch) v. F. J. Hannah, C-hristchurch, (Air Pilkington) claim £lO, money lent. Defendant denied having received the money. Defendant’s evidence was taken in Christchurch and plaintiff’s here. His AYorship said it- was a ease of oath against oath, and had it not I icon for some of the statements contained in defendant’s evidence, he would have found it difficult to decide. Judgment- would lie given for plaintiff for £lO with costs amounting to £ll 17s 6d.
