N.Z. TOUR OF ENGLAND. WELLINGTON. February IA
The. opinion that the tour of the Melbourne Cricket Club’s team, should be uf great benelil. in view of the visit of the New Zealand team to England, was expressed hv Air llugh 1 rumble, the famous Australian cricketer, "ho arrived in Wellington from Sydney tollin'.
The Melbourne team, lie stated, was quite up to the average County standard in England.- “ r l be tour to England,” he said, “will he a splendid education lor the members ol the N./.. team. I always think that any man. if a cricketer at all, is hound to come back a first class player. The improvement that a player makes, it lie bus initiative and keenness, is tremendous. If a player is going to make good at all. bo "ill do so on such a tour, lie is in a team playing against good sides and. of course, ho will he improving his knowledge of the game. One can always learn something in cricket. The New Zealanders played very well in Australia twelve months ago. and 1 think they should do very well in England if they hand themselves together at the outset. They will meet many worse sides ill England than the Melbourne team now on tour in New Zealand, which is quite up to County lorm in England. They will have this advantage over the Australians, that tlicy will be accustomed to the wickets, which are very different troin the hard wickets in Australia, and are more like those in New Zealand.” Mr Trumble expressed the opinion that a player like Kortlang would tic invaluable to “ stiflen ” the side. lIADCOCK'S INCLUSION.
