TWO MAORIS DROWNED
NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 14
Two Maori hoys, Tairoa Wctera and Xubi Tangi, aged about 19 years were drowned while bathing from the lieaeh at Awakino on Sunday. Both were good swimmers, hut they ventured too far out. Two companions reached the land safely, one of whom went out again to assist the others, hut failed. LAD DROWNED. PALMERSTON N.. Eeh. 14. A distressing drowning accident occurred at Moanaroa. near Emigitikei Heads yesterday afternoon the victim heino Ernest James Eriglitwell. aged 19. The youth was swimming with a sister anil when the tide was receding at three o’clock both were noticed to be in difficulty a short distance from the shore. Both were carried out, but the girl was rescued with a life line. Tliebov sank 100 yards out in full view of parents and spectators before assistance could be got to him. DROWNED. INVERCARGTU.. Miss Doris Roue, who swam to A\ ighton to warn him not to go too tar got into difficulties herself hut she was rescued. Pat Barker went, out with a line hut could not locate Wighton and had to he hauled ashore. Soon after deceased's body was sighted and brought to land. hut. all efforts to revive failed. TK KUITT. Feb. 14. At 3 p.m. on Sunday, a drowning accident occurred on the beach between Awakino and Mokl.ni when two Maori hoys. Ruatangi, aged 18, and Tairoa Wetere. aged 14, lost their lives. Both were bathing with a number of others when they got out of their depth. Several attempts nt rescue by their companions failed. A search is being made for the bodies.
