“ MODERN GIRL ” CONTROVERSY.
IS FEMININE REVOLT JUSTIFIED?
QUESTION FOR HUSBANDS
(By “Kim.”)
Civilisation is torn over the question of “the modern girl.” Her dress, liei manners,, and above all—her attitude towards marriage and the home life are agitating speakers and inspiring scribes without number. Nevertheless, there is one point of view which, seems to have been overlooked in the general uproar—a point of view which should be taken into consnferation by every husband and father.
'[’lie modern girl (her age ranges from sixteen to thirty-five, and she may he married or single) is simply in a state of revolt. She is rehelling, quite rightly, not against housework and domesticity, but against drudgery and imprisonmohit. Oan you blame her? She looks around and she sees some fellow’s wife sweating her life out in a wash-house which is more like a soap-smelling Turkish hath than anything else on earth. She sees her sacrificing her youth, beauty, and energy—needlessly-! Ts it an alluring prospect?
A QUESTION FOR HUSBANDS. Washing must he done, we know that. Laundries are either expensive or inaccessible. But has a man any right to subject, bis wife to a weekly ordeal which saps her vitality and brings premature old ago? Ask your mother 1 She too toiled away with an old-fashioned copper (before the “Crompton’s Economic” boilers were invented). Yo ll KN OW that pre-war sort of boiler (your own wife is probably the slave of one) It, heats the wash-house to furnace heat inside Ton minutes, and the girl you married has to crouch down in a cruel temperature and continually feed the fiend with fuel because it takes an age to boil tho writer. You probably bear precious little about it-. Ton’re not there to see the work. But- IS it fair to your wife ? THE PROBLEM SOLVED. Crompton’s “Economic” boilers for gas or fuel are very moderate in price. They boil the water (without heating the wash-house) quickly and cheaply. The copper itself RETAINS beat for long periods—thus ensuring rigid economy of fuel. The “Economic” boiler is for everybody. Can be installed in a few hours. It is going to save you money and trouble; it is going to preserve your wife’s health and youth. You can hardly refuse it ! The Gas Company, the builder, or your nearest merchant will give you full details. Do not put the matter off. The name of the boiler is Crompton’s “Economic,” and it is made by Crompton’s Ltd. of Timm St.. Christchurch. Better make a note—now 1
