LADY WARD

[BY THLECRAPII- I‘EIl TRUSS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, February 7. Lmly Ward, wife of Sir Joseph Ward, died at 11.20 p.m. to-night. Lady Ward’s health had been causing her family and her friends anxiety for some months past, but more recent reports had been less alarming. There were few women in New Zealand who had more friends than Lady Ward. She married Sir Joseph Ward, then a rising and energetic young business man with political ambitions, at her birtliplacc, Bluff, in 1883. He was then chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board and Mayor of the Borough. Four years later he entered the House of Representatives, and ever since then Lady Ward has been almost as well known among people in public affairs in New Zealand as her husband. She was never at any time, however, an active partisan in polities. She was known rather as a gracious hostess, always tactful and charming, and a devoted wife and mother. She. will he sincerely mourned by a very large number of people, and her own husband and family, will have the sympathy in their great grief of many thousands of friends in this country and overseas. Lady Ward leaves a family of four sons and a daughter. Mr Cyril Ward, of Christchurch, Mrs Bernard Wood, of Christchurch, Mr Vincent Ward, of Ilerctnungn, Mr Gladstone Ward, of Christchurch, and Mr Rat Ward, of Hcretaunga. The funer,il will take place at the Bluff on Saturday. The body will be I moved from Wellington on Thursday.
