“THE TIMES” SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT. The natural beauties .the productivity. trade and commerce of New Zealand are set forth in a supplement to “The Times.” to be issued on February “2nd. If is probably, says the Christchurch “ Press.” the best newspaper publicity that New Zealand has ever had anywhere. There are articles and illustrations also which tell of the social life of the people, their pursuits in art, in sport, and several articles and more pictures are devoted to the .Maori race.
An advance copy just to hand comprises thirty-two pages of reading matter and space advertisements dealing with the most important phases of life and business in the Dominion. The supplement is profusely illustrated, and the attractive, full-page advertisements of the city and port authorities and some of the Government Departments must he of value in emphasising in the British mind the potentialities of the Dominion and the development which has taken place in the comparatively short space of eightv years of settlement.
The Tourist Department has pride of place on the rover page, which illustrates. with sufficient explanatory matter, the tourist l-csorts of the three islands. These natural attractions are the subject of several articles bv correspondents. The policy of the Government in regard to tbe chief items of administration is set out iti special articles bv Ministers of tbe Crown:—The Pi 'into Minister (tbe Right Hon. Mr Coates) discusses tbe attitude of New Zealand to the Old Country, dealing specially with preference to British goods, immigration and adherence to Empire traditions : the Minister for Immigration (the Hon. .Mr Noswnrthy) points out the type of settler that is wanted, and states the immigration policy; the subject of Empire trade Is given a column and a half from the
pen of the Minister for Customs (the Hon. .Mr Dciwnio Stewart); the Hon Air Young (Minister for Health) deals with the enlightened system of health administration; Air Contes traces the progress'of railway development; anti the .Minister for Education (the lion. Air \\ right) defines the education policy. giving special meiitibn to the denial clinic system. Major-General Sir George Richardson, write,- upon “.Mandate lltile in Samoa ” : Earl .Tcllicoe describes New Zealand’s share in Imperial naval defence: General Sir Alexander Godley describes " The New Zealand Soldier,” and .Major-General Sir Andrew Russell “The Soldier Settlers” ; and Air F. T. M. Kissed! (Chief Electrical Engineer) deals with hydro-electric development. Among the many other interesting and well-written articlcsjincltided in this comprehensive number are “ .Markets for the Motherland.” by tbe British Trade Commissioner (Air (. E.
