There were heavy showers in Che night, hut the morning broke fine. The first train which carried Hokitika passengers left at 8.30 a.m., carrying about 1000 souls. The second train bringing passengers from Boss aiul wayside stations passed through at 0 o’clock. The Hokitika return train is due hack at 8 p.m.
Mr Hunter, formerly Town Clerk of Runanga, but now resident in Christchurch, has put forward a proposal for a Back to the Coast movement to be held about next Christmas or New Year, on lines .similar to those in Australia, where Back to Ballarat, and other early mining centres, have been held most successfully. Air Hunter lias promised co-operative help from Christchurch, where many ex-Coasters will assist in doing their best to give the movement the widest publicity. The matter is not to be lost sight of and will be taken up locally very shortly.

An Auckland telegram records the death of M> Henry Wetherill, aged SO years, formerly Chief Inspector of .Machinery and Surveyor of Ships for the Auckland district. lie was a survivor of the Klingamite wreck. ■ A Wellington wire states that RearAdmiral W. Dawson. C. 8., and his tamily. arrived yesterday by the Bimutaka to take up their residence in New Zealand. Admir.ld Lawson was Captain of IT.M.S. “Chester” in the battle of .) utland.
The day turned out fine yesterdiv for the Reefton district excursion, the afternoon being bright and .sunny. The picnieers spread all over-the town and when the train left at 5.30 p.m. all appeared to he well satisfied with their outing.
