A lirgo staff of men is still busy on the Federal liner “Northumberland.’’ Since a second hole was discovered late last night, the crew have been busy making a mat. The second hole was found to be five feet long, in the shape of a crack, and if is situated about five feet aft of tho first hole, apparently indicating tUu- the ship .struck two pinnacles, one higher than the other. Tho mat for the second hole was placed in position by a diver, and was wired on.
The tug TeiMwhifi is now engaged in pitmning operations, and the water in Number One hold lias been reduced to eight feet to-night. The crew are now engaged in making one large mat. to cover Clio two smaller mats now in position.
Nivens .sfl.iff at Gisborne are engaged in making an iron plate, 20ft by 16ft. to cover the first hole in the hull.
Except for a slight lessening of the list, there is no material change in the ship’s position. The sea is still calm.
