A Canadian message says:—Alberta farmers are being advised not to bum their straw during the winter months, as the newly-formed Straw Paper Company of Canada expects to start construction of its plant early next spring and will require straw in the summei of 1927. The immediate minimum requirement will he 12.000 tons. It is reported that, farmers and business men are so enthusiastic over the prospects for tlie new paper industry that financing will lx* completed at an early date. Sonic little time ago the 'Westland Paring ('lull approached the Westport Trotting Ciuh to ascertain if the latter Chili would object to a district trotting race being included each day in the Hokitika race meeting at Christmas time. It was suggested that the event he tried this year as an experiment. The Westport Trotting Club, which holds its annual trotting meeting on the same days as the Westland Baling Club races, has objected, however, to the trotting event being held at Hokitika. As the Trotting Club attitude would control the position with the .Vow Zealand Trotting Association, it is hardly likely the trotting event can he arranged fur even as an exiieriment at the Hokitika race meeting.
