WELLINGTON RACES. THIRD DAYS’ RESULTS. [BY TELEGRAPH “PER PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, January 24. For the Wellington Racing Club’s third day, the weather was line and the track in good order. The attendance was large. Tlhe tote handled £'59,221 against £’50,597.1- on the third day last year, the totai for the meeting being £ 184,337 J against .£180,1191, a decrease of £702. Results:—

Melrose Handicap.—Catmint 1. Gold Mint 2. llymill 3. Won hy a head. Time 1.29].

Summer Handicap.—Centrepiece 1, Fire Acre 2, Grand Knight 3. Won by a head. Time 1.38.;.

Consolation Handicap.—Hvainia 1, Civility 2, Clarindn 3. Won hy one and a-half lengths. Time 2.5.1. City Handicap.—Shirley 1, Rcnzora 2. Booster 3. Won by one and a-half lengths. Time 1.101. Kuitoke Handicap.—Crown Area 1, Aston 2. Orazoiie 3. Won by a length. Time 59 secs.

RACING TANGLE. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 24. The decision of the Reception Committee to hold a race meeting on the occasion of the Royal visit lias led to a tangle in regard to the arrangements. Mr George Gould (Chairman of the Canterbury Jockey Club) states that the Minister of Internal Affairs assured him that his club would be granted a totiilisator permit for a meeting on March 15th. to which date its February meeting was altered. Mr Gould considered that the Reception Committee should not go back on its arrangement with the Club. However, the Now Brighton ’Trotting Club is proceeding with arrangements for holding a trotting meeting at Addingtno on March 15th.. lor which a license has boon granted. The matter probably will be finalised at a meeting of the Reception Committee on Wednesday.
