BOXING.
[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] WELLINGTON. Jan. 21. In a splendid contest at the Town Hall .before a crowded house, Charlie Purdy (New Zealand) defeated Raymond Jansen (the French boxer) on points, in an exciting 17 rounds. Jansen was aggressive in the first and last rounds, evidently seeking to knock out. Purdy, but the latter was too clever. His head and footwork were excellent. Purdy had a comfortable lead. WELLINGTON. Jan. 22.
In a bright display of boxing Charlie Purdy. fI.'KH. (Auckland) outpointed Raymond Jansen. 9.11. (visiting Ei'einhiiiaii) at the Town Hall last night, though Jansen did bis best to mix it. Pnrdv showed till that, elusiveness for which lie is noted. Jansen made good on bis first appeintmee hole and the crowded house thoroughly cni'lyed the spirited display. The- last round say Jansen tearimr in to win hv the onIV way open to him. a knockout, but Purdy boxed him splendidly and seared some beautiful lefts. Both slipped and fell in the last moment. Pnrdv punished ITis opponent severely. He had a comfortable margin of points •and the decision in Purdy’s favour was the right one.
