"West Const sea beach road linking Grey and Bailer districts. This is a project -which has had a good deal of support from this end any forward movement to hasten the completion of the road connection would be sure to find favour hereabouts. The value of the road as an improved means of connection is undoubted. Mr Powell travelled over the route this week when coming to and returning from Hokitika. and is convinced of the general utility the highway will he. once it is available for through motor traffic. The distance by the road from Mostport to Greymouih is a little over GO miles, and over 50 miles of the road may now lie done by motor car. Some eight miles of road remain to bs constructed, with the addition of some bridges. As to the utility of the work, it will serve all parts from Karamea south, and is therefore something more than a local or district matter. It lias such a wide utility, as to he of a national character, and there is every justification in urging the completion of the road. Roughly f tic distance from "Westport to Hokitika will he about equal to the length of the trip. Hokitika to "Waiho Gorge. Once completed the inter-communica-tion between Hokitika and AYestport is sure to increase' greatly. At present the two parts arc far apart—isolated almost. By means of the road they will he brought into very ready connection. A five hour journey hv motor will accomplish the trip and that saving of time will he of great value, to both ends of the route. The road will open up and supply some unique scenery. The sea scape mail will pic sent a new variety of scenery for visitors, and the road is sure to ho patronised by all tonring motorists. • A proposal is afoot for a local party to go over the road about the end of March and join with the people of the Boiler district in a general public appeal for the completion of t lie road. As the Government is practically pledged to that action through the Prime Minister il seems to he only a matter of speeding up the Government expenditure.
