Tlie Westland Land Hoard yesterday afternoon when discussing an application for the grant of a better tenure to land at Hariliari adjacent to the liig Wanganui, had a decided difference of opinion. .Mr Chinn voiced strong opinions against the grant, holding the area in question was not permanent land, and the granting of the application would he in direct contradiction to a recent decision of the Hoard. Mr 11,vail favoured giving the settler the host title possible and his attitude was supported by Mr “Ward. Mr Clayton was in support of the attitude of Mr Chinn as a matter of principle, but in view of the applicant being a sterling pioneer settler, he was prepared to vote for the gram.. The Commissioner also favoured a grant and ultimately the application was granted unanimousIv, Mr C'hiiitl stating lie was satisfied having made his protest on a matter ol principle.
An unexpected reunion between brother and sister, who had not heard of each other for sixteen years, took place on board the Sydney boat when she arrived at "Wellington on Tuesday, says " Post.” Going aboard the boat to meet a lady friend, the sister humped in a tall, sun-hurnt gentleman who was about to disembark. Mutual apologies followed, and then recognition. The gentleman was none other tilian brother who had gone from England to South Africa just over sixteen years ago. His only sister had left England about a year later for New Zealand, where she had married. No correspondence had passed between the two, and the brother, taking a well-earned holiday, had chosen New Zealand as the best spot to which to go. without any idea that his sister was in the country. In the excitement of the meeting after such a long parting the friend who was being met had a rather cool reception, “but I would not have missed for anything.” she said. “ the jov which these two showed upon meeting ”
