A- ROOF FALLS. LONDON, January 17. Fifteen children were injured when the roof of London’s oldest Baptist Chapel at Lambeth collapsed during the signing of the final hymn of the children's service. Only the Chapel Treasurer’s stern command 1° keep still quelled a developing panic. lie marshalled sixty uninjured children and marched them outside the door. VALUABLE PAINTING. LONDON. January 17. The artist Orpen, writing to the “ Daily Mail,” announces the discovery of an hitherto unknown Sargent portrait of a Spanish peasant woman, which be purchased from a Bond Street dealer for a considerable sum. He says: “M.ona Lisa is nothing compared with this masterpiece. It is Sargent’s greatest work and was painted with deepest feeling.” He considers it was painted in Spain. Only a stupendous offer would induce him to part with his purchase.
