HOKITIKA V. GREYMOUTII

The Hokitika Bowling Club sent a four-nnk team to Greymoutli to play the Grey Club, tbe game ending in a decisive win for tbe Grey Club’s team. The visitors 'were welcomed by Mr AY. Cochrane (President) who expressed regret that it was the first visit from Hokitika for over a season, but hoped there would be several more during the present session. Air 11. A. Thompson suitably replied and at the conclusion of the play in banding over the Reynolds Badges congratulated the winners on their success and thanked the ladies for their excellent hospitality. Cheers for the (two Clubs and Hie Badges winners (Mr AY. Blair’s team) concluded a very enjoyable afternoon. The green was in capital older, true and fairly fast. A party of tbriteen from Linwood ivho are making a holiday tour of Nelson and tho Coast will arrive at Hokitika on Wednesday from Greymoutli where they play in the morning, and play a two rink team on the Hokitika green ill the afternoon. Tbe party contains five ladies and eight gentlemen.

Tho Dominion Bowling Tournament was contifiued to-day in ideal weather with tho commeneement of' the post section play for tho rinks championship. At the end of tho day, the 50 teams hud been reduced to 30, of whom eight were two-lifers, and 22 one lifers. as follows: Two-lifers—Husking (Carlton), Stewart (Dunedin), Laurenson (Carlton), Meßobio (Remuera), Jenkin (Pocky Nook), lOlvey (Devonport), Truscott (Carlton), Hayden (Takapuna). One lifers—Benyon (Potone). Parsons (Ponsonby), Stephens (Kelburn), Bell (Hamilton), London (New Plymouth). Trayes (Mount 'Eden). Woollcr (Romcura). Benefield (St. Johns), Smith (Dunedin). Morrison (Epsom), Walker (Auckland), Smart (New D'yinouth). Deo (Maitai). Jury (Fitzrov), James (Cambridge), Pilkington (Hamilton), Scrivener (Wanganui), Cordon (St. Johns). Kerr (Mast.ertoh), Harrawa.v (Green Island), Findlay (Mount Eden). Evelitt (Otahuhn). COMMENTS ON PLAY. Swain (Melbourne) met his first defeat in the post section play at tho hands or Pilkington (Hamilton). Tiio teams were level at h alf-way. Pi,'kington then piled on points in great, style, and ran out the winner by 21 to 13. All prospects of an Australian team gaining premier honours were dispelled ii« the next round when Swain went down to Dee (Maitai) in n sensational game. Swain was six up, with only two heads to go. Dee, however, secured a two and a seven on the last two heads, and won 23—20. The second round also sne’t defeat for Pilkington. El vy (Devonport) 1 played a determined and accurate game and the score was 1G all at the last head .Bruce land Elvy both drew shots and the Dovonportj rink won by two points. (Pilkington heat Rcdpath (Canterbury) in the third round. Harrawa.v (Green Island), last year’s winner, triumphed over Lomond (Auckland). after (a close game. The score was 21—18. Harrawhy continued on a winning vein in the second round, beating Rcdpath by 19 points. fn (lie third round Elvy (Devonport) heat Harrawa.v iii n great game. Doherty (Krf’lnirn) went out as the result of defeats by Truscott (Carlton), and James (Cambridge). Naylor (Thnrndon) whose record of nine wins was unequalled in the intersection play, showed a surprising reversal of form, being beaten by Mingius (Epsom), and Trayes (Mount Eden). There was a margin of one point in tho first case, and nine in the second. Kerr (Masterton) who is a well-per-formed rinks player, won his first two games and entered the third round to ho beaten by Jenkin (New Plymouth). Tho team skipped by London had a close tussle with Waller (Remuera), and was beaten by 20 to 18. At its second venture, it had a big win over Scnutleburv (Auckland), and was then badly beaten by Hosking’s team. Hownrth (Canterbury) did not reach the third round, through being defeated by Mcßobie (Remuera), and Skoglund (Stratford). Benvon’s Petone rink made a remarkable recovery against Parsons (Ponsonby). In the first round the score at one stage was 22—10 against him, but he kept at his task, and avon by two points, 24—22. Tn his next game he was extended all the way bv the crack Hamilton . skip. Norrie Bell, but won by three points. Stewart (Dunedin) heat him in the third round. Stewart had a close eVI in the first, round against Clarke (Rocky Nook), but was not seriously troubled by Blanchard (Remuera).
