•A YACHT WATERLOGGED. WELLINGTON. Jan. 15. The Secretary of the P. and T. Department received the following wireless message:—“ll.4 a.in., Palliser, bearing N, 77W. true ten miles, a yacht waterlogged, mast standing, blue ensign jack down; club flag bundled up at tauck. Yellow painted decks and spars. Dangerous to navigation, no person aboard.” CYCLING AND AXEMEN'S UNION. TAUMARUXUI, Jan. 15. A conference of delegates to the New Zeii'and Athletic Cycling and Axemen’s Union concluded last, night. It was decided that the cycling championships this,year be allocated to the West Coast Association, the axemen’s championships to he held over in the meantime. The next annual conference was fixed for Timaru in January. 1!)28. The names of T. and J. Nieholls were removed from the disqualification list. J. Jones of Tingitu. representing tho Northern Athletic Union said he personally favoured amalgamation with tho New Zealand Union but although the matter bad been discussed by his Union, little headway had been made. J. Kennedy (-Secretary) said the matter of the Northern Union joining the Now Zealand Union was still being discussed, and he hoped that before next conference the two bodies would bo one. ✓ Tne election of officers was as billows:—President, J. Boyd, a stock dealer, has been missing since A odnosduy at midday, when he .loft a settlers property at Nikon in a. ear and I*i.; not been seen since. The ear was discovered early yesterday morning by a partyof scorchers in Afangabo river at Maria, having loft the road and gone over an 150 foot bluff. There is no trace of H,o body yet, though *the river has been dragged for several miles, 'the search is being continued but the task is doubly difficult owing to the wild slate of the country bordering the river in the neighbourhood of this spot.
DROPPED DEAD. PAHTATUA. Jan. 15. Jjames Foster, aged 70, a resident J of Bnllnnce for thirty-two years, dropI ped dead at his homo yesterday while engaged iii pushing a car out of a shed. OTA HUH U FIRE. AUCKLAND, Jan. IG. The Faroe a Boardinghouse, of 20 rooms.' in Otahuhn. was completely destroyed bv fire early this morning. Sixteen hoarders escaped in their night attire, with only a few articles of clothing which they seized hastily as they left. The wind took the flames right through the building, which burned Furiously. The Brigade saved an adjoining garage, which was' equipped with a bowser containing a quantity of benzine. , . 1 The building was insured for L 1.700 in the Royal Office, and the furniture for £O3O in the British Traders. The building was owned hv Mr J. Stackpole. of the Windsor Castle Hotel, Auckland, and was leased by Mrs Florence J. Beat.
