The extent to which Englishmen are Waring Gorman hats is disclosed by figures showing that 1.708,000 hats were exported to England last year. SLAVE RELEASED. BERLIN, January 14. The Government has just purchased a pretty Berlin girl, who was a slave at Kabul. An Afghan tobacco merchant, Abdulla Chang, married her in Berlin in 1921 and during the inflation period decided to return 'home/ taking liis wife and child. Employed as interpreter they lived happily until her husband died, whereupon the girl was informed that according to the laws of Afridi tribe she was her husband’s property and therefore passed together with his belongings to his brother. The latter was willing to marry the Berlin girl but the widow objected and in accordance with his rights the brother-in-law sent her to the slave market. Tn order to rescue her from her fate the German diplomatic representatives purchased her.
