Howley. the Sussex professional considers that the North Island possesses tar more powerful cricketers than the South. He holds a high opinion ot Cunningham (Canterbury) and Blunt (Otago) its howlers. He has seen no fast howler, hilt regards M’Girr. of Wellington, as the best last-medium. Kortlang (Wellington) impressed him as the best hat. and he was much impressed with I Inlliugs (Wellington), lbwas aware that there were others he had not seen, lmt who were well spoken of. including Hiddleston (Wellington). Of the Dominion’s first raters the South Island’s quota was only four or five. Regarding the .selection of the New Zealand team. Mr Tiowlev considers that the host men should he picked, irrespective of age. The Auckland coach was asked his opinion of the chances ot the New Zealand cricket team, and said he thought they should win a number of games, but would not say they were likely to beat first-class counties.

In the bowling McNamce took 5 for 80, Fox 2 for 29. Macartney 2 for 28. New South A Vales in the second innings scored 20G. Kippax made 52. Jackson (not out) 104. Tn the bowling Leo took 5 lor . Jb, Scott 2 for 31, and Grimmolt 2 for 50. South Australia’s remaining batsmen quickly succumbed to the wiles of McNaniee. who was bowling well and took three of the lour wickets which fell Ihis morning. Needing 517 to win. New South W ales opened disastrously, three wickets, including; that of Macartney (who made a duck) falling for a total of 9 runs. Kippax and Jackson stopped the rot. and the fifth wicket put on. 105 runs. Jackson placed brilliantly. TTo drove ami glanced beautifully, but lie bad three “lives.” Kippax was hindered by an injured knee. South Australia won by 310 runs.
