NEW SWIMMING RECORD. ' Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY, Jan. 9. Tlie State swimming championships of New South Wales wore decided yesterday in fine but dull weather, before a record attendance. The results were: Hundred Yards Championship—Henry 1, Kirkland 2 .Doyle 3. Won on the touch. Time 56 3-5 seconds. BSO Yards Championship—Charlton 1 Takaishi 2, Kelly 3. Both Charlton and Takaishi got a poor start, but they speedily passed! the other three competitors. Tile Japanese touched first at the 110 yeard slighly ahead of Charlton, and at the 220 yards he was a food ahead. At 330 yards the Japanese was again the first to touch, and the race continued neck and neck till the 440 yards mark, when Charlton drew away, and swimming strongly, he won by thirty-six yards in ton minutes thirty-two seconds. His time is a worlds record, lowering the former world's record by five and two-fifths seconds.
