A FORWARD MOVE. Tb,e (Congregation of All Saints Church will lie holding a general meeting on Monday evening to consider matters in connection with the erection of a Memorial Church. The matter was considered by tlio Vestry Committee at a meeting at tbe Vicarage last evening. Rev. J. Perkins, Vicar, presiding. A definite proposal was adopted to put before the meeting of parishioners on Monday and if adopted by tile congregation the proposal will lie pushed ahead without further delay, fn a draft programme outlined it is proposed to hold special services cm All Saints Day (November Ist) whereat Dr Holloway, a past Vicar, will be tiie preacher. On November 2nd and 3rd, the church sale of work will lie held in the Soldiers’ Hall and a meeting of ladies is to he held next Thursday at the workroom, Hamilton Street, to finalise the arrangements. On Friday. November sth a special Churc'i service will be held, whereat Archdeacon Julius, of Tiniiiru, will be the* preacher. His Lordship, Bishop WestWntscni, of Christchurch, is being invited to lay the foundation stone of tlie new Church on Sunday afternoon, November 7th and preach in the All Saints Church in the evening. On Monday, November Bth, it is intended to hold a Church reunion in the Soldiers’ Hall, commencing at 8 o’clock, when add roses will be 1 delivered by tlio Bishop, Archdeacon Julius, and Dr Holloway. The gathering will take the form of a social and in addition to a short musical programme, supper will be handed 1 round. In connection with the finances fur t’he new Church it was reported upwards of ,£.5,000 was now in sight, and tlio hope was expressed to raise an additional £I.OOO or so in the next twelve or .eighteen months. If the general proposals are approved on Monday night the architect will be instructed to proceed with the prepara-: tion of tlie working plans for an edifice to seat about 30(1. and to be completed as far as possible for an expenditure of about £6OOO. The remainder of tlie cost required, including that o? the Church tower, is to bo a matter for the congregation later. Tlie raising of tlie additional sum now proposed is to he put in hand at once, commencing with the sale of work scheme. An appeal is to lie made also for further guarantees to the building fuml and other sjiocinl means will be organised to raise the sum needed in the required time.
