There were 5.509 present. The Mayor of Barrow welcomed the visitors. LONDON, Sept. 21. : The New Zealand Maori team today defeated the Lyon naise representatives ! by 29 to 9. The Maori team comprised the following: Phillips, Barclay, Potnkn, Lockwood, Mete. Second to last match of an unusually’ long season was played at Athletic Park oil Saturday afternoon between the Seddon Shield districts’ reps and Wellington. Only one more game remains to he played, that against Hawke’s Bay next Saturday. AVellingtoii had great difficulty in getting together a team. AA r ellington scored first. Jowett beat Davies for the hall and got try a try whicii Malcolm converted. AYashingtois opened the Seddon districts team’s account with a try. AVallaee then scored again for the Seddon Shield team and converted his try. AVallaee repeated his effort some time later, and this try was also converted, the scores then being. Seddon Shield team 13; AA'ollington 5. The AA’ellington team then got going. Malcolm goaled from a free kick, and he repeated the act ten minutes later. AA’ilson (Wellington) scored a try which. .Malcolm converted. son in Canterbury between AVeilington and Canterbury yesterday, provided an uninspiring game. Though Canterbury won by 11 points to 14, and in tlie concluding stage made AVeilington look very weak, the winning team never at any -stage gave a glimpse of the form which it displayed against Hawke’s Bay tlie previous week. No All Blacks were included in the AVeilington team, which included some good individual players, though the side as a whole was not strong. The scorers for Canterbury were:— Elvy (3). Kirkland (2), Robilliard. Ford, Dickson and Gray. Lilburny kicked a penalty and converted one trye. Carle-ton converted three tries and Dailey one. For ..cllington tries were scored by lancv, Ronberg, Osborne and Spence. Foley converted one. OTAGO BEAT HAAYKE’S BAY. DUNEDIN, September 25. The weather cleared and the sun shone in the afternoon, when Hawke’s Ray and Otago met on Cnrisbrook, before an attendance oi about 15,000 spcctatrs. Otago won the toss and played with the sun at tlieir hacks. The local forwards dominated the first spell, and attacked for the greater part of the spell. Hanan scored from a nice passing rush, and Jackman touched down from a forward rush. Hazlewood converting the latter try. Ihe spell ended in favour of Otago bj ■ Bto nil.
