ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. FIRM BEEF MARKET. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian.) It CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. ‘ Messrs H. Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale at Addington yards yesterday: Store sheep—A small entry and with few exceptions a very unattractive lot. The yarding was comprised mostly of ewes with lambs at foot, which "ere, generally speaking pretty scraggy for this class. The demand was weak, but for any good lines there was a good demand, and also for what fair dry sheep were yarded. A decent rain would do a power of good. Ewes and lambs 11s 6d to 16s Id, afl counted, old and inferior to 9s 6d, 2 and 4 tooth -wethers 22s Bcl to 245, 4, 6 and 8 tooth 3s 4d, breed ewes 275, inferior ditto 20s, best wether hoggets 21s 7d. Store cattle—No quotable lines were yarded. pjgs—A larger yarding of porker? and prices wer easier than late rates. Baconers —A small entry and the prices realised well up to last week’s prices. Values —Light porkers 50s to 60s, heavy 63s to 735, average 10d to lOJd; light baconers £4 10s to £5, heavy £5 12s to £6 15s, extra to £B, average 10d to 10 Jd ; choppers £6 15s to £7 10b. Store pigs—-A large entry mostly wcaners and slips, any good medium and large stores sold well, weaners declined in prices. Values—Small wcaners 18s to 245, best sorts 25s to- 345, slips 36s to 40s, medium stores 43s to 495, large 52s to 71s; sows in pig to £7. Beef—A larger yarding than la.it week, but the quality was hardly up to the usual standard. The market was firmer all round, especially for prime heifers and cows, a general advance from 15s to 25s per head. Several southern consignments were included in the entry. Prime steers £l4 12s 6d to £lB 10s. extra to £2O 12s Gd, medium £ll 10s to £l4 5s 6d, others to £9 10s. Prime heifers £ll to £l3 os, extra to £l4 17s 6d, medium £8 10s to £lO 15s, others to £5 10s. Prime cows £9 10s to £l2 15s, extra to £ls 17s Cd, medium £7 to £9 10s, others to £5. Mutton—A similar yarding to last week, mostly wethers, but with the exception of a few of the standing lines the quality was hardly up to the 'recent standards. The market was firmer all round, showing an average ris of Is to Is 6d per head. The fact of the report that one or two local factories are about to open whereby they are bound to absorb a fair number of sheep, is bound to have a beneficial effect on this market-, which was certainly reflected to-day. Prime wethers 31s to 36s 6d, extra t: 40s Id; medium 30s to 33s 9d, others to 27s Gd. Prime ewes 28s to 325, extra to 35s Id, medium 23s 6d to 27s Gd, lighter to 18s Gd, inferior 15s 6d.
