TUESDAY, SEPT. 14th
The Council met at 7.45 p.m. Present: Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), J. King, H. T. Parry, J. Lloyd, A. It. El cock, It. Orr and H. M. Coulsou.
Apology was made for the absence of Mr Jeffries.
The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWAIU> CORKtySRONDEXCE. From Grey County Council in refcieuce to heavy traffic regulations, forwarding report of conference of delegates of local bodies at Greymouth.Received. Air Coulsou reported on his attendance and actions at the con force 11 c.—Report approved. From New Zealand Railways asking for connection with night-soil contract. Received and agreed to.
From Minister of Justice, in refeienoe to Town Planning Bill.—Received. From New Zealand Refrigerating Coy.. Christchurch, notifying 100 sheep nnd 51 head of eaitlo had been sent to the abattoir district. —Received. From 1). J. Evans, representative of the District Highways Board, in reference to subsidy for highway in Borough (£1921 and asking tor proposals to he sent in.—Received. Rublie Works Committee to attend to. From T. AL Staines in reference to e.tl'al contract, and asking fur a refund. - -Received ; no action taken, the Council having no power to make a refund. From. Airs E. ,J. Duff, asking for transfer of right of occupancy to ATrs R. Orr. of section in Fitzherbert St.— Received and agreed to. From A. 11. Xaneekivell, asking fur license to erect a Bowser benzine pump. Received and request grants'll on par meat of the usual fee. From Atedieai Officer of Health granting permission to erection of septic tank on the promises of J. X. Robinson.- Received.
From Public Works Department forwarding £96 on account of Alain Highways grant.- Received. From F. A. Lynch drawing attention to necessity of making a drain in Bench St., to carry off surplus water.— Received; referred to Public Works Committee to report. REPORTS.
From Treasurer reporting receipts £ll3 Os sd, payments £419 17s Id, debit balance of £773 5s 3d. Loan account credit balance £47 15s 7d.—Received.
Accounts amounting to £530 9s 1.03 were passed lor payment. FOREAIAN’S REPORT.
Five chains of eighteen pipes were laid in Brittan St. drain between Meld St. and Gibson’s Quay, ltolleston St. drain and footpath were cleaned between Stafford and llampdcu Streets. Livingstone St. drain was cleaned out for a distance of about eight chains, and the gnrse cleared from the roadway to a line with Park St., this work starting from Hampden St. A down pipe was put in at Gooch’s corner and footpath gravelled. A break occurred in Sewell St., near the Soldiers’ Hall, which was repaired. HullcsUni St. drain was cleaned out between Rampden and Park Streets on the east side, and a portion on the west side. A portion of Sale Street drain was cleaned out between Weld and Stafford Streets and covering put on a small culvert in Davie St. During the mouth Brittan St. between Stafford ami Weld Streets was completed and the footpath gravel-
led. The ’spoil from flic previous month s grading was used levelling up a section in Hampden St. between Salt) in 1 Rolleston Sts. A section in Bealev St. opposite Davidson’s Foundry was cleaned ami down pipe put in. A sump was pun in Rolleston St. drain at the corner of Weld St. A two inch water connection was put in to the laiway sited from the Hampden St. main, and connection repaired in Tudor St. • The sheep pen and a part of the bullock pi'ii was concreted and small repairs to tiro floor was carried out at t!\e abattoir lit a cost of £22 19s fid. ■line to ten feet for the month. Ben ley St. drain ot'i the west side of Cass Square is in bad order, and il this se -tion was piped with 18-in. pipes, it would do aivnv with having to timber it. Received.
From Manager of Abattoirs (J. Jarman! reporting for the month of August there were examined: 12 cows, 17 heifers. 82 bullocks, 0-1 sheep, 1 lamb, 11 pigs, t calves, Condemned nil. Fees for month, £o2 Ms fid (for say^--
month last year £6O 2s Od). —Received. .Mr Coulsnn moved the formal motion striking the annual rates for the period commencing on Ist. April, 1026.—Seconded b.v Mr King and carried. No tenders wore received for cutting down trees on Cass Square. The Public Works Committee were authorised tojilaee 100 loads of sand on the football area of Cass Square. It was resolved that a rebate of A per cent, be made on all rates paid within fourteen days of being struck. It was resolved that the Public Works Committee be empowered to lay 111 chains of 18-in. pipes in Healey Street. The Council rose at S.IA p.m.
