PICTURE PLANT BURNT
A lire occurred alongside the Public Hall. TCokatuhi, last evening about 3 o’clock whereby n. motor lorry containing ti picture plant was completely destroyed. It appears that the lorry had just arrived .from Hokitika and ai being hacked into position alongsido the hall for the purpose of providing power for the picture display, some benzine was being emptied into the tank. Air E. W. Hcemm was emptying the benzine, and ,it being dark Mr Saxon struck a match to enable the funnel to be seen. One was struck and burnt out and then when another was struck, though the striker was some C or 8 feet away from the benzine, there was a flash of flame and the whole lorry was in a blaze in an instant. Nothing could be done to save the lorry or machine, but push the lor., away from the building so as to save that catching fire. The lorry and contents were completely destroyed. Luckily the box of film had been taken off the lorry on arrival and this was saved. The lorry and machine was owned ljy Mr AI. Keenan of Woodstock and n ils used lor tne country circuit of pictures.
