LATE LOCALS
A fire took place this morning about two o’clock at South Hokitika when a five-roomed house owned and occupied by Mr Spencer Brown, a piano tuner, was completely destroyed. The building was formerly owned by Mr Webb, and is about halT-a-mile from the railway bridge on tho way to the golf links. Practically nothing was saved, hut a motor ear. housed close
by was safely removed. It is understood the inmates retired as usual to Ire awakened with tho house all ablaze, and no time to save anything hut a few personal things. The nightwatchm.nn (Mr Ridlands) saw the blaze and rerun-tod it to the superintendent, hut being outside the town boundary no alarm was given. In any- event the brigade would have been unable to do anything as there is no water available in tbe locality.
