A MAINTENANCE CASE
STORY OF A RAZOR. AUCKLAND, Aug. 27. An application for a separation and maintenance order by Priscilla Molia Armstrong (Mr Singer) against Harold Armstrong (Mr Adams) was this morning refused by Air F. K. Hunt. S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court. A maintenance order tor £1 a week was nmdo. The wile stated she had been working all her married life, and that for the past fourteen'months she had boon managing a fish shop in Pitt Street. Her husband had been living with her. doing nothing, and for the jiast eleven months she had not received a penny from him. On July 20th. lie had come into her bedroom with a razor and had threatened to out her throat. She went into the kitchen, but lie followed her and then sharpened the razor. The proprietor .j the shop, Air Smith, bad ordered him off the premises, hut he had been back several times asking for money. Cross-examined by Air Adams, witness said that previous to the separation she bad gone out dancing three nights a week, but that she had not
done so since. Questioned- regarding the alleged razor episode, Armstrong denied that he had threatened his wife. ITo had a rn//>r in his pockoi- I Mr Hunt: l don’t carry a razor m mv pocket. ! Witness staled lie was taking it to a man who wanted to have a shave. Mr Hunt: Who had a shave with the razor? Witness: Nobody. The man was mil. Witness further stated his wife had once attempted to cut her throat with a razor, hut that he had taken it from her. Mr Hunt: So you thought you would do it for her. Asked if he took the razor out in the lied room, accused stated he did not. It was correct that Smith had ordered him off the premises. Ho had at times come hack to try and make it up with his wife, hut lie had never on any occasion asked for money. The Magistrate refused to make a separation order, hut made a maintenance order for £1 a week.
