» - 1 ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. DROP IN BEEF PRICES. (By Telegraph.—-Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Alessrs H. Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale at Addington yards yesterday:— . Another large yarding especially for this period of the season. The quality with a few exceptions was very unattractive. Several lots of ewes with lambs were entered. The market generally was much easier, the prospects not being too good, as rain is required. Competition except for ono orally good lot was very apathetic. Store sheep—Ewes and lambs all counted, 12s to 23s 6d, inferior ewes and small lambs to 8s 4d, forward wethers 24s 6tl to 27s od. Ono small pen of extra good 28s Gd, others to 225; best S.AL 3-breed ewes to 35s Gd, medium 23s to 26s 6d, aged and S.AI. to 19s. Cross bred wether hoggets 16s to 17s Gd, good to 21s; ewe ditto 23s to 27s 6d. Store cattle —Comparatively small entry and only odd and nondescript lots were entered. No quotable lines were offering. Fat pigs—Only a medium entry, and the demand was slightly easier except for pigs of quality and finish, which sold well at late rates. Values: Porkers 54s to Oils, heavy 63s to 78s Gd: average lOd to lid per lb. Baconers £4 10s to Co 15s, heavy £6 to £6 10s. extra £0 1,5 sto £7; average 9d to 9Jd po rib. Choppers £5 to £8 13s. Store pigs—A very large entry and the sale throughout was slightly easier than last week, and must he considered very good. Any pigs of outstanding quality mot with good competition and realised excellent prices. A'alues: AVonners 23s to 30s, slipes 32s to 355, small stores 32« to 355, small stores 30s to 425, medium 44s to 48s, large 52s to 645. Beef—A smaller yarding than last week, but in face of tlie recent heavy yardings butchers apparently have good supplies on hand. The market again showed a decline of about 20s per head. Tho quality, however, was hardly up to the average, and the sale very irregular. Prime steers £l2 15s to £ls 10s, extra to £lB 12s, medium £lO 10s to £l2 15s, others to £7 10s; prime heifers £8 to £9 ss, extra to £ll 7s, medium £5 15s to £7 12s 6d, others to £4 10s. Prime cows £8 to £9 15s, extra to £l2, medium £5 10s to £7 15s, others to £3. Mutton—A smaller entry,, and the quality, with a few exceptions, not nearly up to recent cardings. Graziers competition was practically noncxistant. Tho market opened much easier, but improved somewhat as it progressed, but eased considerably in tlio concluding stages and showed an average drop of Is 6d to 2s per head. AVost Const and country butchers were operating freely. Prime wethers 30s 6d to 34s 6d, extra 35s to 39s Id, medium 27s to 30s, others to 265; prime ewes 23s to 26s 6d, extra to 31s 6d, medium 21s to 22s 6d, others to 17s.
