A young mail strolled into the Farmers’ National Bank, in. the heart of the business district of Pittsburg, and without word, presented a written demand for a “hundred thousand or lill blow you up!” The teller pressed a secret mechanism, and, within ten seconds, four special policemen tried to close in on tho bandit, who threw a. satchel which lie carried against, a pillar. A terrific explosion followed. It wrecked tli’e building. It killed one detective and mortally wounded two customers. Fifteen others were taken to the hospital. The bandit himself escaped. The whole down-town section of Pittsburg was shaken by the force of the crash. Paper money was lf’.own in every direction, ami was picked up hundreds of feet away.

A telegram from Los Angeles states: “Pola Negri, the screen star, received a cable from Alberto GuglielmT, brother of the late Rudolph Valentino, stating that lie will sail from Paris on Wednesday to complete the funeral arrangements. She will leave for New York on Saturday to meet him.
Rudolph Valentino earned a million dollars last year, hut he did not leave one cent, in cash. He owes Mr Joseph Schenk two hundred thousand dollars on a note, that is secured by liis only life insurance policy for that amount. The profits from deceased’s film royalties now running will accumulate a tidy fortune for his heirs, who are his parents and brothers in Italy. FOG IN NEW YORK. NEW YORK, Aug. 25. An unusually heavy fog cloaked New York and vicinity, seriously hampering traffic in both street and harbour. Liners which were clue early in the morning were delayed on the outskirts of the harbour and were unable to dock for many hours. Smaller vessels were forced to operate with extreme caution while street traffic greatly slowed clown. Steamers from Boston, Providence, and elsewhere, were so long delayed that many passengers landed miles from the docks and completed their trip by taxi cab and subway.
