(by TELEGRAPH PER PRESS ASSOCIATION THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, August 24 The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Public Revenues Bill and Town Planning Bill were received from the House and read a first time. Hospitals and “Charitable Institutions Hill, Scientific and Industrial Research Bill and Howard Estate Amendment Bill were put through tlieir final stages and passed without amendment.
The second reading of the Family Allowance Bill was carried by 17 to 5 and the bill put through committee and reported without amendment. Dairy Industry Amendment Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Agricultural and Stock Committee.
The Alining Bill was also read a second time pro forma and referred to the Goldfields and Alines Committee. The Council rose at 9.25 p.m. until next day. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30. Amongst other hills introduced by Governor-General’s message was the Licensing Amendment Bill, the principle feature of which is a clause enabling the electors to say at next poll whether they want licensing polls every three years or every six years. Electrical Wiremcn’s Registration Amendment Bill, and Marriage Amendment, Education Amendment Bills were read a second time. Local Governments Loans Board Bill was reported from committee without amendment, read a third time and passed. Now Zealand University Amendment Bill was also put through Committee stage and passed. The House rose at 5 a.m. till the afternoon,.
