LATE LOCALS.

Newman’s Motors Ltd. are running ears to the Kiimara Dance to-morrow evening. Preparations for the annual Hospital Ball next week are now well ahead and the committee is sparing no effort to make the event a success. During the next few days the ladies of the committee will visit the country districts for donations and supper contributions, and Mcsdames Buchanan and Ford have kindly offered cars lor this purpose. For the children’s ball it is proposed to introduce many novelties. There will he conietti and streamer dances land Mr R. Lynn has very kindly offered to assist the decorating committee in making arrangements for these, in addition to the prizes to lie presented for the best fancy paper costumes, it is the intention of the committee to present every child attending the ball with a novelty. On Saturday evening or early on Sunday morning, a big slip came down on the Buller road some four miles above 1-veil. covering a good part ot the road. Numerous cars filled with passengers arrived on the scene and assisted the Public Works gang to remove the debris, effecting a clearance .sufficient to allow ears to proceed on their journey, after a halt of just over an hour. Along further parts of the road slight slips had taken place, not sufficient to hold up traffic, but giving evidence of the looseness ol the ground on the hillside and the need for some pick and shovel work, to get rid of the loose gravel before the next heavy downpour occurs. _____
