Instalment Buying. Instalment buying has been defined as a method of budgeting; it has also been designated as the advance outlay of savings, but it is also claimed that it is a mortgage on prospective earnings. Opinions differ. Some people prefer to accumulate their savings at the nominal rate of interest offered by the savings bank until the necessary sum is available to complete the purchase of the desired article; others assured of the regularity of their savings prefer to buy the article on instalments.
