The two previous meetings of the teams representing Cornell and Princeton Universities on the one hand and Oxford and Cambridge on the other have been productive of such a fine spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that Americans are anticipating from the forthcoming contests a gratifying accentuation of the Anglo-Ameri-
can brotherhood in sport. The opinion of both the American universities is that the chances for n m-ucli more closely contested meet than last year are very favourable. R.ussell. the captain of Cornell, is the Ameriacn inter-collegiate champion in the 100 and 200 yards races. He will oppose Porritt. Last- year each won one race. This year it is believed here- that Russell should win both races on the form shown to date. Princeton, it is hoped, will furnish winners in the pole vault and the broad jump, for Bradley has pole-vaulted 12ft. Oin. and Dikeman has broad-jumped 23ft. 7i inches. The chance for an American victory thus depends, it is thought, on the ability of Cornell’s representative to win the 440 yards race and of Princeton’s representatives to win the high
