The Chairman moved that letters of •sympathy lie forwarded to Alessrs Blank and Wells, in their illness and wishing them a. speedy recovery.— Seconded by AD Jeffries and carried. J NAVA It D CORRESPONDENCE.
From Hospital Department in con neetion with collection of fees.—Received.
From Dr Vnlintine, Wellington, in reference to cost of installing wireless sets, stating same were not recognised as expenditure on which subsidy would be paid.—Received. From Hospital Department, Welling, ton, forwarding letters received from Native and Public Trust Departments in reference to claims against Maoris. —Received. Air Jeffries thought the time had come for the Board to take united action to bring the matter under the notice of Parliament, to> enable the collection of claims for maintenance ow. ing by Maoris. He moved to that effect. Seconded by Air Davidson, supported by the Chairman and carried.
From National Provident Department. Wellington, in reference to contributions to fund.—Received. From Otago Board in reference to maintenance claim.—-Received. From Dr Baird applying for nine days leave of absence.—Received and action of Chairman in arranging was approved, Dr Teichelmann acting as locum tenens. From Druids Lodge, forwarding rules in connection with hospital funds—Received. From N. Wylie, asking for annual leave.—-Received and request granted. From E. Freitas resigning position ns pantrymaid.—Received and accepted. From W. D. Nolan, Okuru, in reference to- supply of ambulance stretcher. —Received. From Eric James, Okuru, in reference to same subject.—'Received. From J. Hutton, principal of Technical School, stating a cookery class for nurses was being arranged at the Technical School, Hokitika.-—Received. From Canterbury Automobile Association, Westland branch, asking for power to call out motor ambulance in ease of accident. —Received and request granted. From Dr Baird, stating in accordance with request of Board Tuesdays and Fridays were being set down as the days for discharge in future.—Been ived. From Airs A. Brown thanking Board for appreciative letter in connection with her late husband’s bequest.—Received.
The Audit Office returned the balancesheet with a tag stating local bodies had not been charged with interest on overdue levies.—Received; local bodies to lie notified thereof. NOTICE Ok’ AIOTION.
Afr Davidson moved that the Board give consideration to the advisability of appointing one or more honorary surgeons to assist the medical superintendent of Westland Hospital. AD- Jeffries moved that Dr Arandl be appointed consultant and anaesthetist to Westland Hospital during the absence of Dr Teichelmann. Seconded by Air Morel and carried. REPORTS.
From Medical Superintendent reporting for July.—On Ist July there wore 38 patients. Admitted during month of July, 24 males, 11 females, 35; total treated, 4G males, 27 females, 73 ; discharged cured, 22 males, 7 females, 29; relieved, 2 males, 2 females; died, 1 female; total discharged, 24 males, 10 females; remaining in hospital on 31st July. 22 males. 17 females, 39. Tn hospital for over . two months, 12 males, 7 ‘females—l9.—Received. From Hospital Committee reporting on requirements and recommending that 50 shelter trees be obtained. Received and approved. From Finance Committee recommend accounts amounting to £450 os. 8d he passed for payment.— Received and adopted. T] ie Treasurer reported receipts Ui-o 12s sd, payments £389 12s 3d; credit balance £466 Is 10d.—Received. The Board rose at 9.20 p.m.
