In the course of discussion on the report of Sir Frank Heath, Hon A, S. Malcolm stressed tho importance of scientific experts being attached to all the principal industries. Hon T. AT. Thomson urged that for successful work and to encourage good men, sufficient salaries lie paid to the

Research Department officials. The Government is to be congratulated upon the appointment of Dr M.arsdcn as Secretary of the Institute and ho hoped also that the Institute would be provided with sufficient funds. The Council adjourned at 4.50 p.m. until Wednesday next. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The House proceeded immediately to consider the Estimates, when, sixteen clauses were passed and the House rose at 2.15 a.m. till 2.30 on Tuesday, when consideration of the estimates will be continued and it is Imped completed.
