Seven waggons of a mixed train from Tuatapero to Invercargill were derailed near Orcpuki this morning. There is no serious damage. The line is completely blocked. A breakdown train has been sent to clear the track. MAN FOUND DEAD. GISBORNE, July 31. AY. Stark Lawriij, a well known chemist vp.s found dead in his bed this morning. AA’hen his wife entered the room he was apparently asleep Imt failing to wake him .Airs Lawric became alarmed and summoned medical assistance. The deceased had not boon ill nor had been attended by a doctor. GARAGE FIRE. INVERCARGILL. July 39. A fire at Riverton at two o’clock ibis morning destroyed G. C. Kerse’s garage and the adjoining blacksmith’s .shop. Four cars were destroyed, including a charabanc insured for £OOO. The other cars were privately owned. The buildings were insured for £B9O. NEW ZEALAND ATHLETES. AAELLINGTOX, July 30. The New Zealand representatives to the Amateur Athletic Championships of Australasia, at Brisbane, left for Sydney by the Ulimaroa to-day. The team was farewolled hv the Council of the Association. AH AVilton wished the members every success. An enthusiastic send-off was given at the wharf.
