WESTLAND BRANCH
ANNUAL AIEETING.
The Westland branch of the above held its annual meeting on Tuesday evening in the County Chambers, Dr Teichelmann presiding over a small attendance of members.
The annual report of the Association for the year, showed that a large amount of good work lias been done, particularly in the direction of signs at danger points, in having, improvements made to roads, and bringing influence to- bear in having various works expedited, such as bridging the rivers of South Westland, the construction of the road to Lake Alahinapua, and the better loading for cars at* Otirn and Springfield. Some discussion ensued on the question of arrears of subscriptions of members. Tt was the general opinion the subscriptions of members of the Westland branch should be paid to the local secretary. It- was also decided that members in arrears should not be eligible to bold office. Before the election of officers, Dr Teichelmann said as be would be absent for several months bo preferred not to accept- the office of President. Mr Coulson considered that as the doctor lias been -a very active President be should be re-elected. On the motion of Mr Coulson, Dr Teichelmann was reelected President and Mr D. Stuart vice-president.
Air C. Gaylor was re-elected secretary. members paying a tribute to Mr Gaylor’s work during the past year. An honorarium of £5 5s was voted to the secretary.
A committee, comprising the following, was elected:—Dr Teichelmann, Messrs D. Stuart, R. F. Peril am, F. Williams, H. M. Coulson, J. Turner. C. Gaylor, A. R. Elcock, Garnet Perry, T. AY. Duff, J. N. Robinson and R. Orr. Members referred to the apathy shown by many members to tho working of the Association, and the many useful works carried out by the Chairman. Votes of thanks were recorded to the officers of the previous year, also to tho County Council for the use of the meeting room, and Mr Sargent, representative of the parent body; the latter to be requested to continue to represent the Westland branch. At a. subsequent meeting of the Committee, a letter was received from the Council in Christchurch, asking that representatives ho appointed to .attend a- conference during Grand National Week. The matter was left to the President and Secretary to attend to.
Air Andrew Parkhill and Air Alorpeth, were elected members of the Association.
Air Coulson referred tv tho flimsy nature of a driver’s license, which should he strong enough to stand the handling required of it. He suggested that it take the form of a strong folder. On Air Coulson’s motion, it was resolved to recommend to the controlling authority (Westland County Council) that a more durable and bettor type of license be issued. At the recommendation of Air Searle, Hari Hari, to have more signs erected on Alt. Hercules, it was resolved to have more “slow” signs prepared for various points that require notices.
An interesting dismission took jiTace on the question of signs; those host ■suited to arrest tlio attention of motorists to minimise the danger of accidents.
