JOHN TINDALL DROWNED

• GRE-YMOUTH, July 26. A most distressing tragedy oceuned on Saturday at the Rough River in tho vicinity of Ikaniatua, the victim being Mr John Tindall, of Brick St., Greyniouth, only son of Air John Jindale, Public Works Department Foreman. of Barry town. The deceased, who was a member of the staff of the Overland Dairy Factory, and was 21 years of age, had been on holidays, and went up the Ikaniatua district with a. mate on a ’possum hunting expedition. His mate contracted iiiHuensa, leaving Tindall alone at their camp near the Rough River. On Saturday morning Tindall left camp to go to Ikaniatua. Nothing more was heard of him that day, and as his dog turned up without him at the camp, fears for his safety led to a search being made for him. Alcssrs Torn Shaiinalinn and Afelimie organised a search party, whose efforts were directed to the Rough River. Yesterday tho searchers found Tindall’s body at the edge of the Rough River where it had boon washed by Iho current. It was brought at 5 p.m. to Ikaniatua and last night to Greyniouth. The deceased, who was a well-known member of the United Football Club, was a quiet young mail, highly esteemed by all who knew him, and the greatest sympathy is felt for his bereaved relatives. He was a native of Greyniouth, and besides his parents, he leaves three sisters, ATiss K. Tindall (Wellington),, Miss Grace Tindall (school-teacher, of Mercer), and Miss Hannah Tindall (school-teacher at Taihape). Afr Tindall, father of the deceased, is at present a sufferer from influenza. An inquest will he held in Greyniouth to-day.
