HOKITIKA CADETS.
(Contributed.) As previously arranged, the HiVoitika Cadet football team journeyed to j Greymoutli on Wednesday, where they I tried conclusions with the Greymoutli j boys. 'Pile weather conditions were by, no means ideal, as pouring rain fell | during practically all the game, and i this together with a bitterly cold driv-i ing wind made the lot ol the players j far from enviable. Nevertheless the • Hokitika boys (christened the Khaki j Rovers), well out of their element, pt up a good fight, and until well after half time had the advantage ot the gjame. From start to finish it was a forward game, it being impossible to handle the greasy hall. None ot the backs had any chance to show up a* all. From the kick off Hokitika forwards set up a strong attack, and White, who throughout the whole game played very consistently, put on seven points, r. try and a drop, from then on it was purely a forward game, and Grey who seemed no relish this style of play, crossed the line in massed forward attacks four times. On one of the very few times that the ball was passed among the backs, Jones sprinted across for a good try. Hie game ended with play in mid-field, Grey being victorious by two points. Injuries were lew and tar between, though Ronnie King came off the field with a very prominent nose in place ol his usual well-shaped proboscis, while nestor sustained two hard bumps of the head and did not appear to take , m ,ch interest in the game afterwards. After the match the team proceeded to celebrate tlieir defeat (and incidentally tlieir forthcoming victory), and Greymoutli well regaled with all the latest songs, the choir raising their musical (?) voices to some effect. The team extended a hearty welcome to the Greymoutli boys, and if it happens to be a fine day will provide an ambulance to carry off the remains. Notwithstanding tlieir defeat the cadets now wish to trv conclusions, with teams further afield, and are looking to Reef ton or Westport ns their victims. The trouble is of course, lack of funds. The trip yesterday was paid for by the cadets themselves, but obviously the majority could not raise enough funds to take them as far as Westport. Any practical suggestions as to the manner of raising funds will be heartily welcomed, and anyone who would like to assist will receive a cordial reception at the Drill Hall on Monday light, when the next parade takes pi a ce.
