WESTLAND ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.
The Board met at the County Chambers at 7.30 o’clock last evening. Pre-sent-Messrs J. A. Alurdoch (voted to the chair), R. Wliiley, E. F. Perhain, E. A. Wells, L. H. Alorel, T. Cbesterman, B. Ward. An apology was received from Air AV. Butler (Chairman). Alessrs Burrell and Benyon attended from the Kumara Borough Council and Air J. S. Langford, Christchurch, was present also. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was aj)proved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Kumara Borough Council notifying conference of local bodies at Kumara last week.—Received. The Chairman stated the meeting was attended by representatives of the Kumara Borough and AVestland Board. The Greymouth bodies were leaving the matter to the Westland Board to negotiate in regard to the Kumara water races. This matter would he considered later.
From Public Works Department acknowledging intimation of election of Chairman.—Received. From Grey Power Board conveying terms of resolution adopted at conference on sth ult., whereat it was agreed negotiations with the Afines Department in regard to water power at Kumara ho left to the AVestland Board for the time being.—Received and confirmed Jiy the Chairman who stated the Grey Board was a prospective purchaser of power if the development took place as was contemplated. From Federated Association of Boards supplying particulars of charges for light and power by the several Boards operating in the Dominion.— Received. From Alinister of Alines convoying terms on which the water rights at Kumara were offered for sale, tcndeis for which closed on tlio 21st inst.—Received.
The above matter was discussed at considerable length, the views of the delegates from Kumara being beard and the members of the Board expressing their views also.
Ultimately tlie Secretary was instructed to write tho Alinister of Alines and convey the terms of untender as agreed in accordance with the trend of the discussion, certain stipulations to he made to meet the special circumstances, and the general position to be outlined I ullv.
The town members were appointed a special committee to act in regard to the matter, should any emergency arise.
Air Langford asked that the issue of the license for his company to operate might be expedited. He explained bis proposed source of supply lor power was distinct from the Kumara water races. It was contcmlnted under the license asked for to reticulate the Kumara end of the district, also Aialuira and Kokatalii districts, and those associated with him were anxious to proceed. It was stated the license would cover the territory between Teremakau and Hokitika rivers, exclusive of tho Borough of Hokitika. It was resolved to again write the Public AYorks Department in terms of letter of May 4th, and urge that tho application for the license in question be dealt with as soon as possible. Tho meeting concluded at 9.20 p.m.
