A benedicts’ ball will be held in the Lower Koiterangi Hall on Friday, Aug. 6th.. in aid of the piano fund. Tlie complimentary social to -Mr and ilrs James O’Brien ■ takes place tonight in the Soldiers’ Hall.

The death occurred yesterday at the Grey Hospital of Mr Herbert Faulkner, aged 32 years. Deceased, arrived on the Coast two months ago to visit his brothers. Messrs Faulkner, of the Omoto Sawmilling Co. He was in ill-health when he arrived, and gradually becoming worse, was admitted to the hospital. Deceased served over four years in the Great War. and participated in the landing at Gallipoli. He was a stretcher-bearer on the Peninsula for five months, and also served in Egypt and France, being severely gassed. Mr and Mrs D. Faulkner and Mrs D. Taylor, of Invercargill. arrived on Monday at Grevmouth, and Mr N. Faulkner arrived yesterday. Nurse Faulkner of the Westland Hospital is a sister of deceased.
