WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL

TUESDAY, 13th JULY. OVEBBKR’S MONTHLY REPORT. NORTHERN RIDING. Kuinara to K-apitea Road grant. Tile Contractor lias completed four chains of clearing, grubbing, and formation, and completed one twelve inch diameter concrete pipe culvert. The whole of the concrete pipes to complete the specified number of culverts totalling 14/36 inch diameter, 18/18 inch diameter, and 21/12 inch diameter pipes have been railed from Hokitika to the work.

Stafford Drainage Work was ecntiiUied liv day labour, and completed 200 links beyond the specified distance. The whole of the work lias been completed in a satisfactory manner and has provided an outlet for the drainage and stagnant water formerly creating a. nuisance in the Vicinity of the Stafford Post Office.

Araliura. River Protection (Malfroy’s Bridge) £ for £ grant was completed a distance of 400 links, leaving approximately 200 links still to be completed. The scarcity of suitable material, principally manuka scrub, which requires hauling a considerable distance, adds greatly to the cost of construction.

Palmer’s Creek Bridge Approaches. Reynolds, and the three stream pier piles driven and capped, also two abutment sills and caps placed in position. The new bridge will be completed by July 17th. Cower Kokatahi, Lake Kanicri, Whitcombe Valley, and portions of Hokitika Flat Roads, were repaired with gravel. Arthurstown Road was graded between Hokitika Railway Bridge and Hokitika River Bridge. Kanieri-Hokitika-Hau-Han Road was repaired with broken metal and gravel between the lower flat, and Han ITau. Slips wore removed from Lake ICnnieri Road at the Power House and Slip Hill. Four stringers n.nd the decking was removed and renewed on a twentytwo feet span bridge on Wall Road, and 1-33 feet stringer and tbo decking renewed on White Creek Bridge, White Road. One concrete pipe drain was constructed on Hokitika. Hau Hau Road, and two twelve inch diameter pipe drains constructed on AVhitcombe Valley Road. 1-36 diameter concrete pipe was constructed on Lower Kokatnhi Road above the Outlet Drain. Watertnbles wore cleaned on Hokitika. Ilau Hau. Blue spur, Lake Kanieri and Lower Kokatahi roads, the stone crusher was worked crushing metal on the last three days of the month, and | tbo approach to' Municipal Hall, £5 vote, completed in a satisfactory manner.

SOUTHERN HIDING. AVnitnngi South Bank Grant—The contractors have completed the work the specified distance of one mile in a very creditable manner. Rohertson-Haddock Road. —The formation and metalling has been completed a total distance of -11 chains, linking up Robertson with ' Haddock Road. Evans Road Construction.—The contractors have made good, progress with the metalling during the month, and with average weather conditions the work should ho completed hy the end of July. maixtenanlct;. Roadman Whitiskie attended to water-tables on Evans Road ; repairs to had holes and approach to a culvert on the lower portion of l’ctcrsen Roads; also the renewal of defective planks on culverts' Wanganui Flat Road. Repairs were effected by corduroying the

worst boles on the Rotokino track between Alt. Hercules and Dry Creek. Repairs were completed to' the worst portions of the old Ross Road, between Mason’s corner and the northern bank of Donnelly’s Creek.
