WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD
MONDAY, JULY 12. The Board met at 8. 15 p.m. Present ;—Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. M. Blank, G. Davidson, R. Meharry, -M. Keenan, IV. Jeffries, L. If. Morel, E. A. Wells, and A. B. Spiers. Tho minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
From Mrs F. AY. Thompson acknowledging letter of sympathy.—Received. From Dr Valintine, Wellington, forwarding report of departmental accountant on inspection of Board’s accounts.—Received. Mr Jeffries moved tho proposals he approved and published and that the necessary action he taken'. Seconded by tho Chairman and carried. Mr Davidson moved that the Secretary visit the hospital in accordance with the report three times a week. Seconded by Mr AVells and carried ; effect to be given from August Ist.

From Hospitals Department granting approval of Board’s . request for AVestlaiul Hospital to he recognised as n training ground for mid wives.—Received.
From Hawern Hospital Board agreeing to reciprocal arangements in regard to treatment of patients.—Received and agreed to.
From Dunedin Hospital Board, claiming for maintenance of a patient. —Received; no action to he taken, the patient belonging to Grey District. From Auckland Board claiming for maintenance of patients from Westland.—Received; liability not recog-
nised. From AY. IT. Evenden. Kumara, forwarding half yearly amount due for Kumara Aledical Association, £75. Received with thanks.
From Hokitika Fire Board agreeing to sale of old reel for ss.—Received.
From Dr E. Teichelmann asking for leave of absence for six months as consulting medical officer.—Received and request granted. From Defence Office granting use of Drill Hall for annual hall.—Received. A quantity of correspondence dealing with maintenance accounts was dealt with. GENERAL. The Chairman moved a number of; additions to the bye-laws. Seconded by AD- Blank and carried, a special I meeting to he held on August 9th to confirm same.’ REPORTS.
From Surgeon-Superintendent reporting on June Ist there were patients in the hospital 26 males, 21 females—--47 ; admitted during June 19 males, 9 females'; total treated 43 males, 30 females ; discharged cured 18 males, 13 females; relieved 1 female; died 3 males. Total discharged 21 males. 14 females—36. Remaining in hospital on June 30th 22 males, 10 females—3B. In hospital for two months, 12 males, S femnels—2o.—Received. The House Commitee reported having visited the Hospital, conditions being satisfactory. The Matron reported a number of changes in the staff and enclosing list of donations of articles received.—Received.
Accounts amounting to £443 14s 9d were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts £671 I ts lOd. payments £9Ol 3s 4d; credit balance £630 Is Bd.—Received. Mr Davidson moved that the Board acknowledge the gift of the late Air \Y. Brown; of Waiuta, of the sum of £SOO for the poor of the district and
that a letter be sent appreciating the generosity of the donor, to Mrs Brown. Seconded by the Chairman and carried. The Board rose at 9.15 p.m.
