Members of the Winter Show Executive arc reminded of the meeting on Thursday evening at Ivokntahi Public Hall.

A reminder is given of the meeting of ladies at the Hospital Board Booms at 7 o’clock to-night for the purpose of inaugurating the annual Hospital Ball and fixing the date.

The Kanieri Football Club’s Ball takes place in the Public Hall, Kanieri to-night. Very complete arrangements have been made, and with good music, a very enjoyable evening is assured.

The Medical Superintendent of the Grey Hospital reported that at tbe beginning of tbe month of May the number of patients in tbe Hospital "ere: 47 males and 30 females, and during tlio mouth 3G males and 27 females wore admitted, and 28 males and 29 femaels were discharged. Two patients (one male and one female) died. The patients remaining at the end of the month comprised 52 males and 26 females. The patients at the Old Peoples’ Homo at the beginning of May totalled 36 males and 7 females, and at tbe end of May 37 males and 7 females.

The general committee of the Westland Competitions Society met at the County ChamJiers at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Present:—Mr D. .T. Evans (President), Bev. Dr. Kennedy and Bev. Knowles-Sniith (Vice-Presi-dents), Messrs B. Lynn, J. Conning, H. Partridge, and .1. W. Morris. The business of the meeting was mainly in connection with finalising details for the hook of words to be issued immediately. entries will close on August 13. Miss Daly was appointed official accompanist. The set pieces suggested by Mr E. .Moss, musical adjudicator, for the musical section were adopted. Hon IT. L. .Michel accepted the position of Patron, of the Society and forwarded a donation of LI Is. Bev Knowles-'Smith donated £l. Is and Bev. Dr Kennedy a volume of Shakespeare and three volumes of prose and poetry, value two guineas and a-lialf. It was intimated -Mr A. W. Yarrail would donate a special and the President undertook to arrange for a silver cup for the elocutionary section. The details of the prize list were then gone into, and the awhrds appropriated.
