There are two million unemployed in Germany who are receiving doles from the Government to the amount of sixty million sterling per year. Meanwhile the United Steel Workwhich is the new Ruhr Steel Trust, that lias been arranged with the inssistiuiee of America, begins its operations to-day, amalgamating no fewer tl.y.n sixty concerns, which are yielding forty million tons of coal annually while its 250 rolling mills are turning out seven million tons of finished steel yearly. The German Government has assisted in the formation of the trust bygiving favourable arUmgemonts regarding the taxation due front the members of tile trust, which amounts to a considerable subsidy.
