At the annual conference of Cooperative Dairy Factory Maingers and Secretaries, Mein tie, dairy expert, in a lecture comparing various preference policies covering tho industry in New Zenalnd, New Smith Wales and other States said New Zealand’s policy was preference for export quality whilst New South Wales should have a preference for the local market. Figures for consumption per head in the peak production year of 192-1-25 were illustrative of the effect of these policies. In New Zealand butter consumption per head was 25J pounds. The speaker contended that in Australia they made hotter butter at less cost than in any other country in the world. ITe said the quality of Australian butter was going up by leaps and bounds. Australian production of the past eight years averaged about 106.COO tons. The ycbr 1925-26 showed an increase of twelve to 'thirteen thousand tons above this. Population was tho principal factor in butter trading policy in Australia. It was four times greater than that of New Zealand’s local trade. In New South Wales it was twice as great as New Zealand’s.

After considerable discussion on cheese manufacture, the conference decided to circularise hoards of directorates in regard to the financing the sending of one delegate to New Zealand to report on investigations there. It was agreed to ask the State Government to allow A dairy expert to proceed on such a visit.
